A LOVE STORY
This is a love story. It’s about a man, a successful Swiss businessman, who falls in love with the Samana peninsula of the Dominican Republic. It was from such thoughts that the concept of Terrazas de Coson was born. As the owner of a Swiss company that has been for years manufacturing turbines for wind energy, the man’s passion for ecology and respect for the environment, along with his love of the good life, led him to create this unique resort. It’s one that’s clearly aimed at those, like the man, looking for comfort and elegance in a natural setting, yet with the guardianship of the environment always kept to the forefront. The artistic director of Terrazas de Coson, Christine Bottero-Lhardit, came up with the “eco-chic” term to describe this resort that perfectly combines its prime position in the midst of nature with the most modern comfort and luxury.
MAN AND NATURE IN PERFECT HARMONY
Terrazas de Coson is located on a hillside along the coastline. Running from between 100 and 200 meters above sea level, the setting grants the resort unparalleled views of sea and surrounding mountains. The 72 exclusive villas that comprise the project enjoy an enviable privacy since they are hidden in lush foliage and spread out upon approximately 370 acres. Each villa is practically invisible to the next. And the environmental-friendly design makes them blend even more into the natural landscape.
To accomplish the perfect melding of pristine nature and modern comfort, Valman, the development company, sought out the very best partners, starting with GVA, ranked as the best architectural firm in Latin America according to World Architecture Magazine. GVA’s specialty, a natural fit for the Terrazas de Coson project, is to design with the goal of achieving the best possible integration of a project with its surroundings. With Terrazas de Coson, several challenges had to be overcome due to the eccentricities of the land. In the end, completely unique villas were designed by GVA, each one designed around its particular setting, and no two alike. Another unique characteristic of the Terrazas de Coson villas is their gardened tile roofs, designed by Carlisle, a world-wide leader in roof construction. The green tile roofs of these villas, covered by plants, will contribute both to power savings and to the diminishing of any environmental impact. Additionally, all the villas will run on solar energy and be built with natural materials.
POOLS, GARDENS, DINING, BEACH AND TENNIS CLUBS, A SPA, AND MORE
Each villa has its own swimming pool as well as smaller plunge pools and waterfalls and streams that wind through the residences. The lush tropical gardens move the project even closer to the idea of complete harmony with nature. And the spectacular views from the gardens are even available from the interior of the houses, since each house has been designed so one can enjoy a stunning, panoramic view from any room.
Terrazas de Coson will also boast an exclusive five-star boutique hotel consisting of 28 bungalows, accessed by funicular, each bungalow, like each villas, with its own plunge pool and breathtaking ocean views. The complex will have waterfalls, pools, and much to do. There will be bars both indoor and out, a tennis club, access to a private beach club and spa, and several restaurants, one of which will be directed by a renowned French chef. SECURE AND PRIVATE, YET ACCESSIBLE AND CONVENIENT
Terrazas de Coson is easily accessed. It has its own heliport and is close to six airports, the major one, the new International Airport of Samana, a mere fifteen minutes away. Next to Terrazas de Coson is the charming town of Las Terrenas, with its vibrant night life and boutique shopping. Las Terrenas was discovered by the French more than forty years ago and is now an international enclave with a population consisting of French, Italian, Spanish, German, and of course Dominican residents. With its beachside clubs, cafes, and chic restaurants, Las Terrenas has a casual atmosphere that is at the same time one of sophistication. Its European influence, combined with Dominican, means its restaurants offer international cuisine, with flavors from all over the world.
THE POWER OF TEAMWORK
It should be noted that, in addition to those partners previously mentioned, Valman is also benefiting from the architectural and engineering services of MAG Caribe, a firm that specializes in developing luxury tourist projects; and Consorcio Remix, the biggest construction company in the Dominican Republic. Valman is also relying on the services offered by Legacy International Group. Legacy, with its worldwide reputation for selling luxury resorts is now in charge of marketing and international sales. Legal matters involving the project are in the capable hands of the prestigious law firm Biaggi & Messina, experienced in the unique demands of foreign investors. Stewart Title, one of the major forces in its field, has been enlisted to guaranty clear title with the transactions. Finally, significant European, North American, and Dominican Banks have joined the project, offering their mortgage services to clients interested in purchasing.
AN ECOLOGICAL RESORT IN A PROTECTED ENCLAVE
Terrazas de Coson is situated in a privileged location. It is very close to the Haitises
National Park, sprinkled by little islands of singular beauty and surrounded by mangroves. The nearby bay of Samana has been nominated by the UNESCO as Reserve of the Biosphere since in the first three months of each year thousands of humpback whales arrive to mate in the waters of the bay.
